Biggest Spike In COVID-19 Cases In India; 8,392 Fresh Cases In Past 24 Hrs

NEW DELHI: On Monday, May 31 India saw the highest spike in the number of novel coronavirus cases being reported yet. As much as 8,392 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours. The total tally of India has risen to 1,90,535 lakh cases now.

The death rate also saw an increase as around 230 fatalities occurred in the last 24 hours. So far, the outbreak has lead to 5,394 deaths in the nation. The mortality rate of India is at 2.8%, one amongst the lowest in the world.

Because of the recent 24 hours spike, India overtook France and is now the 7th worst-hit country with coronavirus on a worldwide level.

Maharashtra alone was responsible for reported 2,487 new cases on Sunday i.e. yesterday. The total tally of the state is now 67,655. It also has the highest fatalities with 2,286 deaths reportedly.

Delhi has also seen an increasing number of cases in the past few days. However, yesterday around 1,200 were found to have been affected by this life-endangering virus. The total number of cases in the country's capital city is now 19,844.

Even the daily cases in the state of Tamil Nadu experienced a spike as it reported 1,149 positive COVID-19 cases in a single day, this added to the total tally of the state which is now at 22,333.

On the other hand, the recovery rate of the virus is on the rise as well. Recovered patients crossed the 90,000-mark yesterday. In the last 24 hours, more than 4,500 individuals were known to be free of coronavirus.
