Rahul Gandhi Lashes Out On Govt, Asks "When will India’s poor wake up?"

On Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, taking a dig at the Centre said that poor people were dying of starvation while the government was busy making sanitiser from their share of rice. 

Taking to his official Twitter account, he said in Hindi: “When will India’s poor wake up? You are dying due to starvation and they are engaged in disinfecting the hands of the rich by making a sanitiser from your share of rice."

Earlier, the Congres leader had also urged the government to not to charge Goods and Services tax on ‘small and big’ equipment related to the treatment of the deadly COVID-19 that has infected more than 18,601 people in India. Gandhi also asked the government to ramp up coronavirus testing in a bid to contain the ongoing crisis. 

Out of the total COVID-19 cases in the country, 14,759  are active cases, 3,252 have been cured or discharged, 590 have died as of Tuesday, reported the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Globally, the novel virus, which first originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan last December, has infected 24,81,866 people and killed thousands. Coronavirus has brought the world into a standstill with economies announcing complete or partial lockdowns in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.
