Twitter Slams Payal Rohatgi For Giving A Religious Angle To The Hyderabad Vet's Murder Case

HYDERABAD: India mourns once again! We lost our another daughter because of a heinous act yet again! People are raising their voice demanding justice for Priyanka Reddy who was allegedly gang-raped and then murdered in Hyderabad. Among those was a Bollywood actress, Payal Rohtagi, who tried to give this shameful act religious color. 

Rohtagi, who comes from Hyderabad, expressed her anger on the matter but also hinted towards the Hindu-Muslim issue. She tweeted, "राम राम जी #RIPPriyankaReddy Hindu girl raped and murdered by rapists in Shadnagar of Hyderabad Is Shadnagar a Muslim majority area? #IndianMedia please run this story too and get girl justice #OmShantiOm #PayalRohatgi."

Soon after her tweet, many people expressed their anguish on her comment of trying to cover the whole act by giving it an angle of communal violence. However, the actress did not stop here and tried to prove her point that Shadnagar is a muslim majority area by sharing a link. She wrote, "Ram Ram ji I don't want some people to accuse me of Hindu/Muslim hatred so I am just sharing this link. This is to all those who always SPELL #Hindu word in crimes where they are involved Specially #IndianMedia #RIPPriyankaReddy #PayalRohatgi."

People were more infuriated and tagged the Mumbai and Hyderabad police to take legal action against such insensitive comments.

Twitter, however, has suspended her account for now and those who supported the actor on her views came up with a new hashtag #ISupportPayalRohtagi and questioned the nation's freedom of expression.
