Girl From Kerala Commits Suicide; Couldn't Attend Online Class

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Unable to attend the online classes which began from Monday, A Keralite girl from class 10 committed suicide by setting herself on fire, as per her parents.

The girl was from a poor scheduled class family, residing in a small house in Valancherry, Malappuram. She was known to be academically a very bright student through her school life. She was extremely upset that the TV set in her house wasn't working and the only phone in their home wasn't charged.

It was revealed by the parents from Monday morning she was upset and by herself as she couldn't attend her online classes.

Once the mother realised the girl is missing from the house, a search was carried out, after which the burned body of the student was found almost 200 metres away from their house, accompanied by a bottle of kerosene.

The autopsy would be carried out at the Manjeri Medical College Hospital which is run by the state and handed to the family to conduct last rites.

Local legislator Abid Hussain Thangal spoke up regarding the matter and he said, "We had raised this aspect with the education authorities but do not think, there were any arrangements for those who did not have a TV or a smartphone. She was a very bright student."
