COVID-19 Cases In Pakistan Near 90,000-Mark

On Friday, according to data released by the health ministry, coronavirus cases in Pakistan rose to 89,249 after a record 4,896 new infections were detected in the country. Meanwhile, the total number of deaths due to the deadly virus has reached 1,838.

As per the Ministry of National Health Service, 68 people have died in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,838. Out of the total cases of infections, 31,198 people have recovered. 

Friday was the third consecutive day Pakistan reported a record high in the number of cases in a single day after the Eid holidays and easing of lockdown restrictions at the end of May.

Sindh province reported 33,536 infections, Punjab 33,144, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 11,890, Balochistan 5,582, Islamabad 3,946, Gilgit-Baltistan 852 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 299.

In the last 24 hours, 22,812 COVID-19 tests have been conducted across the country, the ministry reported. So far, the total number of coronavirus tests done in Pakistan is 638,323.

Even as the number of coronavirus infections continues to surge rapidly, both houses of parliament are scheduled to meet separately on Friday. The Senate session started this morning while the National Assembly will be held in the afternoon, Radio Pakistan reported.
