On Wednesday, reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national address, former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said that the PM gave a “headline” and a “blank page”.
On Modi's announcement of a 20 lakh crore economic package, which is the equivalent of almost 10% of the country's GDP, for a “self-reliant” India, Chidambaram said that he looks forward to learning the details of the package which will be given over the next few days by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
“Yesterday, PM gave us a headline and a blank page. Naturally, my reaction was a blank!” Chidambaram tweeted.

Today, we look forward to the FM filling the blank page. We will carefully count every ADDITIONAL rupee that the government will actually infuse into the economy.
In his address to the nation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the details of the economic package will be made public by the finance minister in the coming days. “Starting tomorrow, over the next few days, the Finance Minister will give you detailed information about this economic package inspired by the ‘Self-reliant India campaign’,” the PM said.
“We will also carefully examine who gets what? And the first thing we will look for is what the poor, hungry and devastated migrant workers can expect after they have walked hundreds of kilometres to their home states,” Chidambaram added.

Modi, in his TV address, repeatedly focused on the importance of self-reliance and urged citizens to buy locally sourced products. He said that Lockdown 4.0 will be guided by a new set of rules.
