NEW DELHI: As a number of migrant laborers are going to their homes on foot, Congress attacked the Narendra Modi government on this mass exodus. Besides questioning the Centre govt if the lives of the poor matter or not, Congress also urged them to ensure their safety.
Manish Tewari, Congress spokesperson and MP from Punjab, tweeted on Monday, "Do poor lives matter? Question - government should ask itself. If they do then unlock railways/buses and take them home. Do not stop them by force on roads. If state had the ability to feed and shelter them they would not be on roads. Try and get them safely home." He also tagged railway minister Piyush Goyal.

His attack came amidst the reports of thousands of migrants moving from big cities to their home states on their feet. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an impromptu nationwide lockdown so as to combat the pandemic COVID-19, the migrant laborers are walking to several districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
In view of the 21 days' lockdown across the whole country, the railways and interstate bus services had suspended their services from 24th March to April 15th.
According to the statistics, India reported 1071 positive cases for the deadly virus so far with 972 active cases. While 100 have recovered from the diseases, 29 people have lost their lives.
