NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi, who is also a well-known animal activist, lashed out at owners of pet shops who deliberately left animals and birds in the shop during the lockdown. She also appealed to people that if they notice or hear any animal inside a closed pet shop then immediately call the police.
In a tweet, Gandhi said, "Pet shops are locking up with their animals and birds inside. These will die in two days. If you see a pet shop and hear animals inside call the police or let me know at [email protected]"

The remarks by the former Union Minister came after the government announced complete lockdown in several parts of India so as to control the novel coronavirus pandemic. During this lockdown of the markets, only grocery stores, medical stores, vegetable and fruits shops and all the essential commodities have been allowed to open.
So far the total number of positive cases for the infection has reached close to 500 in India.
