On Tuesday, a 23-year-old woman killed her son before hanging herself at her home in Jitpura Dhani village of Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri’s Badhra.
As per her father-in-law, the young woman took this drastic step after her husband of five years refused to let her pursue a government job. Reportedly, she had passed an exam for a clerical job and wanted to work. However, her husband denied her permission.
“She had cleared the exam for a clerical job in the Haryana government, but my son did not allow her to join,” the father-in-law said. “We came to know about the matter on Monday night when my son saw the bodies of his wife and son hanging from a ceiling fan.”
Anil Kumar, the Badhra deputy superintendent of police (DSP) said that a probe has been initiated into the matter.
“We have recorded the statements of her family members. The woman did not leave any suicide note behind,” Kumar said.
According to the station house officer (SHO), Telu Ram, “The woman had got married five years ago. Her husband is a farmer and belongs to a well-to-do family. The woman hailed from Mitathal in Bhiwani district.”
After the shocking suicide of TV actor Kushal Punjabi, the issue of mental health has once again resurfaced in mainstream news. Losing people to what is still a stigma in society today is disheartening.
