SRINAGAR: After the rumors of doomsday started spreading in Kashmir that Thursday could be the end of the world, its people are left restless.

All the people in Srinagar city, towns and villages of the Valley started praying and calling for 'Azaan' which is not heard of during the wee hours anywhere in the Islamic world.

At many places, children and women were crying as there were rumors that people had seen 'Dajaal' (The Doomsday Trumpeter) in the sky. Many also claimed that they had seen the name of the Prophet of Islam written across the night sky. People are restless and are bewildered asking each other what has happened.

The rumors were fuelled by certain news reports that said a huge asteroid could pass close to the Earth on March 26th, 2020. It had quoted NASA officials that a potentially dangerous asteroid would skim the earth on the said date.

Thus, this just gave a push to all the local rumors as well because Kashmiris have a general belief that 'Qayamat' (doomsday) would happen on a Thursday.

As Kashmir has already reported 11 COVID-19 cases so far, people are already living in fear. The Valley-wide resort by the people to 'Azaan' left the authorities clueless for many hours as to what had caused the panic.
