Nation Remembers Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee On Birth Anniversary

New Delhi: Tributes were paid to the former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary. The former Prime Minister was being remembered for his public service and poetry skills on his birthday. PM Narendra Modi along with President Ram Nath Kovind paid tributes to Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Sadaiv Atal Memorial in New Delhi, early morning on Wednesday.

Floral tributes were paid to the former PM on his 95th birth anniversary where, along with PM Modi and President Kovind, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Bhartiya Janata Party's working president JP Nadda, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and senior BJP leader LK Advani also remained present.

PM Modi also remembered the former Prime Minister and extended his greetings to Vajpayee through Twitter, where he remembered the former Prime Minister and wrote, " Tributes to Atal Bihari Vajpayee , who is etched in the hearts of the countrymen, on his birth anniversary. The PM also posted a video having snapshots of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and himself together.


About former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee:

  1. The former PM was born on December 25, 1924 in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior.
  2. He was an active member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and was among the founding members of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh. 
  3. He has also served in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and was a member of Parliament from Lucknow from 1991 to 2009.
  4. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of several leaders who was jailed during the emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.
  5. Vajpayee was the first person from the Bharatiya Janata Party to become the Prime Minister.
  6. He had served as the PM thrice for a brief period in 1996 and from 1998 to 1999 and then for a full five year term between 1999 and 2004. 
  7. During his tenure, India had carried out the Pokhran II nuclear test in Rajasthan in 1998 and the Kargil war between India and Pakistan had broken out in 1999.
  8. Not only as a successful politician but the former PM is also known for his writing skills.
  9. He was a prominent writer and has penned down many popular works.
  10. Atal Bihari Vajpayee took his last breath on August 16, 2018 at AIIMS in New Delhi.
