COVID-19: Total Tally In India Rise To 1.58 Lakh; Over 4,500 Deaths

NEW DELHI: States from all over the country reported more than 6,500 fresh coronavirus cases in the past day. The total tally of India now stands at 1,58,333 cases as of today i.e. Thursday, May 28. 

The fatalities due to the virus also increased and India has observed 4,531 deaths by now. In the last 24 hrs, 194 deaths were observed from all over the nation. The active coronavirus cases in the country are around 85,100. The recovery rate is also improving as 42% of people out of the total tally have made a recovery. Meaning, 67,692 individuals have completely recovered up to now.

Maharashtra itself comprises of 36% of the total coronavirus cases. The total tally of the state is 56,948 and the city of Mumbai alone consists of more than 32,000 people suffering from COVID-19. The state detected over 2,190 cases in the last 24 hours and over 100 fatalities, making it the first state to register over 100 deaths in one day.

Tamil Nadu is the second worst-hit state after Maharashtra. It reported a total of 817 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. This has increased the total tally of the state to 18,545.

Gujarat observed 374 new cases yesterday. The death toll is on the rise in this state. A total of 23 deaths got reported from here and the total fatality toll is now at 938. The city, Ahmedabad itself recorded more than 700 deaths.

The national capital, Delhi also crossed the 15,000-mark in the last 24 hours, as 792 fresh COVID-19 positive individuals were found in the region. It is the highest count in a single day, to date. The death toll of the capital city stands at 303.
