NEW DELHI: The fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown is coming to an end today. The novel coronavirus cases in India have now risen to 1,82,143 whereas the death toll of the country is at 5,164, as per the data updated in the morning by the website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In the past day, as much as 8,380 new cases got detected and 193 deaths occurred. As per the Health Ministry, the active cases in India are currently at 89,995. The recovery rate also seems strong as approximately 86,983 individuals have recovered from the life-endangering virus by now.

As per the recent update regarding the cases on the Health Ministry website, the most numbers of cases are in Maharashtra as the state's total tally is around 65,168. It is followed by Tamil Nadu, the second most affected state which has 21,184 cases. The national capital, Delhi also has 18,549 cases followed by Gujarat which is at 16,343.
In terms of death rate, Maharashtra is again leading with 2,197 deaths reported so far. Gujarat has had over 1,007 and Delhi is at 416.
It was on May 18 that India surpassed the 1 lakh-mark. It was also the day when the 4th phase of the lockdown had just put into action by the government.

On a worldwide scale, there are over 60 lakh cases of coronavirus. The death toll is also nearing the 3.7 lakh mark. The US, which became the epicentre of the virus has reported more than 17 lakh cases. India is the 9th worst-hit state in terms of the country with the most coronavirus cases.
