India woke up to find the country rid of 4 atrocious rapists who successfully exploited the justice system for 7 long years. At last, the law caught up to them and they were hanged to death at 5:30 a.m on 20 March.

On Friday, after their simultaneous hangings, the bodies of the four rapists were sent to a hospital for a post-mortem as the protocol dictates. According to a spokesperson of Tihar Jail, the bodies of Mukesh Singh, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital at around 8:20 am after their death.

Sandeep Goel, Tihar Jail’s director-general said the bodies will be handed over to the families after the post-mortem. However, the families will only get hold of their bodies after signing an undertaking that says that they will not make a public demonstration of the cremation or burial of  the rapists.

“The post-mortem report of judicial handing is different from normal handing. Autopsy likely to completed by 12:30 pm,” an unnamed source at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital was quoted as saying by ANI.

The four men were convicted for the brutal rape and murder of a 23-year-old paramedical student on the fateful night of 16 December 2012. The crime caused an uproar as thousands took to the street to protest on 17 December 2012.

Two more people, including a juvenile, were also involved in the crime. The main accused, Ram Singh allegedly committed suicide in the jail and the juvenile, who was just a few months shy from his 18th birthday was let off after serving a light sentence of just three years. Today, he roams the streets freely despite his atrocious crime.

Finally, karma caught up and the four rapists were sent to the gallows.

However, never forget, a rapist is still free on the streets. Never forget, he pulled out Nirbhaya's intestines. Never forget, how an incompetent law let him off easy.
