The incident took place at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court where the filmmaker filed a case against director Meghna Gulzar and actor Deepika Padukone. Padukone is also producing the film along with starring in it. Under the filed complaint, Bharti mentioned that he with his son had decided to produce a film which deals with a survivor of acid attack. The registration of the film was also made on May 2015 with the name ‘Black Day’. The complaint also contained that the duo had discussed the idea with many actors from the industry like Aishwarya Rai, Kangana Ranaut and so on along with the production house of Fox star Studios to produce the film.

Rakesh has claimed that a copy of the script, which was written by him was given in the offices of Ka Production, Mriga Films and also Fox Star Studio, these production houses had also shown an interest towards picking up the project. It came to the notice of the complainant quite late when he realised a separate film is being made but on the very same subject his script was on. He further mentioned that the film ‘Chhapaak’ has been made after improving upon his own script.

The upcoming film, ‘Chhapaak’ will follow the journey of Malti, an acid attack survivor, who is being portrayed by renowned actress Deepika Padukone. It is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal and will hit the theatres on January 10, 2020.
