Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan will not be attending the National Film Awards 2019 ceremony in Delhi to be held today. Big B has revealed that he is down with fever and would not be able to attend the National Award ceremony.

The 77-year-old Bollywood veteran was hospitalized a few weeks ago and despite being unwell he was continuously working after being discharged from the hospital. He has again been diagnosed with fever and has been advised not to travel by the doctors.

Amitabh Bacchan took to Twitter to inform his fans that he won't be able to attend the National Film Awards this year. "Down with fever. Not allowed to travel. Will not be able to attend National Award tomorrow in Delhi. So unfortunate. My regrets," wrote the superstar of Indian cinema in one of his tweets on Sunday last.

Big B has recently wrapped up the last leg of his film 'Chehre' and had attended the opening ceremony of the 58 edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa last month.

It is to be mentioned that Big B is not in very good state of health for the past few months. He had shared that he lost 5 kgs of weight after getting discharged from the hospital in October last. Although the senior Bachchan had said weight loss was good for his health but there have been concerns about his well being since then.

The Awards:

Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu would be distributing National Film Awards 2019 at the Vigyan Bhawan. While senior Bacchan would be missing the ceremony there are others from the film fraternity who would be honoured by the Vice President, Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal being in the line. Vicky and Ayushman have shared the best actor award for their films 'Uri: the surgical strike' and 'Andhadhundh' respectively. The Vice President has wished Big B a speedy recovery and called Amitabh Bachchan and inspiration to the country in his address to the audience. Akshay Kumar has also been honoured with the National Award for Best film on social issues.

President Ram Nath kovind would reportedly be hosting a high tea for the winners later.
