Shahid Kapoor seems to have become the poster boy for Telugu remakes in Hindi. After the massive success of Kabir Singh, the ‘Jab We Met’ actor has now bagged the Hindi remake of the hit Telugu film ‘Jersey’.
Released in 2019, the Telugu version of ‘Jersey’ is written and directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, and the Hindi version will also be helmed by him. On casting Shahid, Tinnanuri said, “I’m really looking forward to remaking my film Jersey in Hindi and taking it to national audiences and there is no one better than Shahid Kapoor to recreate the magic of the original for Hindi audiences.”
Despite being surrounded by controversies, Kabir Singh emerged as a box office hit and it is safe to say that it has transpired to become one of Shahid’s most memorable roles.

Jersey follows the life of Arjun (played by Nani in the Telugu version) as he struggles to make it big in mainstream Indian cricket. An immensely talented cricketer, Arjun is held back because of game politics and is stuck with government jobs through sports quota. Already bogged down by life, Arjun faces another obstacle when he loses his job after being accused of bribery. Circumstances change and Arjun returns to cricket at the age of 36.
Going by the first look, Shahid looks his amazing self in the role of a cricketer.
Talking about his career, the actor recently said
“I think there is a lot to learn and I feel very fortunate that I have been working in this industry for 15-16 years now. I am thankful that people have appreciated my work, but I have a long way to go. I think I have achieved really less in these 15 or 16 years so I want to do many things in the rest of my career, because now with every year, you grow older and there are younger people with exciting talent who come along. You learn from them, but as far as you are getting opportunity to act, and as far as people are interested in you, you have to enjoy it and give it your best,”
The Hindi remake of ‘Jersey’ will be directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri and co-produced by Allu Arvind, Aman Gill, Dil Raju.
