RIP Irrfan Khan; Actor Passes Away At 54

MUMBAI: It is indeed a dark day today as the anomalous actor, Irrfan Khan has lost his life to the neuroendocrine tumour he was dealing with for almost two years. He was merely 54 years old. The actor was hospitalised at Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on April 28, Tuesday. He was under observation for a colon infection. He was diagnosed with the aforementioned tumour in the year 2018.

The representatives of the actor shared the sombre news of the actor's demise through a statement,

I trust I have surrendered,’ these were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heartfelt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, ‘As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it’.

Director Shoohit Sircar, who had worked with the actor on the film 'Piku' took to twitter to share the wistful news with the world. In his tweet he wrote:

The actor was going through numerous treatments abroad for many months in the year 2019. He worked on a single project that year, filmmaker Homi Adajania's Angrezi Medium. Khan also lost his mother Saeeda Begum on Saturday, 25 April. It was alleged that he attended the funeral through a video call. She was 95.

Irrfan debuted into the film industry in the year 1988, through the film 'Salaam Bombay!', His career spanned over many decades in the industry. He has also been recognised for his international contributions in Hollywood films like The Amazing Spiderman, Life Of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, and Jurassic World.
