Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh is in talks to portray ‘Nagraj’, one of India’s iconic comic book superheroes. The big screen adaptation will be produced by Karan Johar. The president of publisher Raj Comics, Manoj Gupta shared the news.
Nagraj comics started during the late 1980s and have a huge fan following till date. The superhero character has also transitioned constantly in terms of appearance and superpowers over the past 25 years. The comics contain a rich merger of mythology, sci-fi, supernatural elements and fantasy.
Some fans also claim that the franchise has created a mythology of their own. It also opposes India’s stereotypical perception of snakes.
Gupta said, “When we started publishing Nagraj, we never realised it would get recognised this widely. We are in talks with Ranveer and Karan Johar for a live action film adaptation of the Nagraj. Though, nothing is permanent but things look good and are shaping up slowly. We are hoping for a 2022 release as the project is in the initial stage as of now.”
“While India has a lot of superheroes of its own, there have been no comic to movie adaptations for the same. Nagraj can be the first comic book hero to make it’s way to the silver screen,” Gupta further added.
