Mumbai: It seems as if Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are still not over with the wedding frenzy. The duo will be co-producing a show inspired by the concept of Sangeet ceremony, a vital part of Indian weddings.
Amazon has picked up the series and it will premiere in the popular streaming service of ‘Prime Videos.’ Sources close to the stars revealed that the series will go in production from 2020 and the scripting is in process.
The official synopsis of the show reads, "The series is going to be a celebration of marriage, love and magic that arises when friends and family come together through the tradition of singing and dancing an evening before the wedding. Engaged couples will feature on the show. They will belong to a diversified range of cultures and hail from different locations. Each episode will follow a different couple with their friends and family as they prepare for their wedding and their sangeet which will feature celebrity choreographers, stylists and creative directors."
On being asked about the project, Priyanka mentioned, "Nick and I re-watched our own Sangeet celebration videos on the occasion of our 1 year anniversary. The togetherness of our friends and families sparked the same kind of warmth and excitement as it did on the day of the celebration. Sangeet is a centuries old Indian wedding tradition not only about the union of two families, but also focussed on the bonding and introduction of the families."
Nick also added, "The days leading up to our Sangeet were the most special and memorable for us. We are very excited to bring this concept of musical celebration to the mainstream in a brand new style to Amazon."
Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon studios said, "We are excited to collab with Priyanka and Nick to honour the prestigious tradition of Sangeet. We will find couples from different backgrounds and bring their families together through the universal language of song and dance."
The upcoming project will be produced by Amazon Studios and Alfred Street Industries. Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas along with Anjula Acharia, Phil McIntyre, Nina Anand Aujla, Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz and Dan Volpe will act as the executive producers for the show.
