LOS ANGELES: Natalie Portman became the talk of the town at the 2020 Oscars when she decided to wear a dress which contained the names of the female directors who should have earned a nomination in the ‘Best Director’ category. Her unconventional and quite innovative way of making a statement was noticed immensely and appreciated by many at the prestigious gala.

The black Dior cape worn by the actress contained names like Greta Gerwig (who directed Little Woman), Lulu Wang for ‘The Farewell’, Melina Matsoukas (‘Queen and Slim’), Lorene Scafaria (‘Hustlers’), Mati Diop (‘Atlantics’), Marianne Heller (‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’), Alma Har'el (‘Honey Boy’) and Celine Sciamma (‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’).

Unfortunately, some individuals are calling out the ‘Black Swan’ fame for being a hypocrite. This is because Portman owns a production company that goes by the name of ‘Handsomecharlie Films’, which has never hired a female director for any of the 7 of the films it has produced, except for one, which was Natalie herself. Some also noted that in her career of almost 30 years, she has only ever worked with 2 female directors.

Natalie Portman produced cum directed the 2015 film ‘A Tale of Love and Darkness’

Here are some reactions from the netizens :

The actress is yet to reply to these allegations.
