Internationally acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron is sure he will regain his spot for the highest grossing feature film with his movie ‘Avatar 2’. It has a release date of 17th December, 2021.

Cameron also believes that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (the film which currently holds the record of world’s highest grossing film) should enjoy it’s moment as he will be taking over soon. Disney's Avengers: Endgame which was released this year earned a total of $ 2.796 billion at the global box office. By doing so, the movie broke the record set by Avatar ($ 2.789 billion) and Titanic ($ 2.187 billion), both of which were directed by James Cameron.

When being asked about the same, Cameron mentioned, “I think it's a certainty. But let's give 'Endgame' their moment and let's celebrate that people are going to the movie theatre.” He also mentioned that he “really enjoyed”  Marvel studio’s superhero movie and admitted that it did beat his film avatar but just by “one quarter of a percent”.

He further said, "I don't want to sound snarky after I took the high road (by offering congratulations). But they beat us by one quarter of a percent. I did the math in my head while driving in this morning. I think accountants call that a rounding error."

The third instalment of the Avatar franchise, ‘Avatar 3’ also has a release date of 22nd December, 2023. The filmmaker has also hinted that if the sequels are a box office success, there shall be more instalments in the series.
