NEW YORK: Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been sentenced to 23 years in prison earlier this month for rape and sexual assault charges, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus in jail.

After the detection of the disease, the producer has been kept in isolation at Wende Correctional Facility. A source close to him said that Weinstein was sick in the prison, however, officials at the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision are yet to confirm this. They recently revealed that Wende facility's two inmates have tested positive for the pandemic.

Harvey Weinstein recently celebrated his 68th birthday in the prison itself on March 19th, after he was shifted to the maximum-security prison, following a few days at New York's Bellevue Hospital and also spending some time at the medical unit at Rikers Island prison, New York. He had complained of some heart-related problems.

Besides Weinstein's current sentence, he is also facing four charges of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles and the procedure has been started by the District Attorney. The proceedings, however, are delayed owing to the global outbreak of COVID-19.
