World Disability Day: Let's Join Hands For Providing A Better Environment To Such People!

3rd December is recognized as World Disability Day. United Nations has dedicated this day as the International day of people with disabilities. The day is celebrated every year and aims at making the people throughout the world understand and accept those who are specially-abled and also appreciate their achievements despite the hurdles. 

This day came into existence in the year 1992. Since then, it has been promoting the acceptance of issues regarding the disability of a person. World Disability Day is to increase the awareness of the problems of all the suffering people and support them for a better lifestyle. 

World Disability Day 2019: Theme

The theme for the year 2019 is 'Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda'. The main focus for this year is to empower every disabled person and grant them a better environment for their development as mentioned in the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. 

India VP Venkaiah's special appeal

India's Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu made a special appeal to his people as well as to the world that the day should be renamed as 'International Day of Persons With Special Ability'. He said, "World Disabled Day' should be renamed as 'International Day of Persons With Special Ability' as such people have made immense contributions to the society and proved that nothing could stop them from achieving their goals."

He attended a program where he presented national awards to persons for their excellent contributions towards empowering the persons with disabilities. 

He further continued and said, "We have many remarkable men and women with special abilities amidst us who have excelled in a number of fields. Given the right kind of environment and opportunities, they can make an immense contribution to the cause of nation-building."
