Uber Cabs has lost its license to work in London which is one of the biggest platforms for Uber for its services. The local transport regulator pointed out that Uber was not qualified enough to continue its services.
Transport for London (TfL) said:
"It will not grant Uber London Limited (Uber) a new private hire operator’s license in response to its latest application. ”
This is not the first time when Uber has lost its license. In 2017 Uber lost its license for the first time and after that, it has been given two extensions which expires on Monday. Uber is allowed to do business until then.
London has around 45,000 drivers from Uber so this going to affect the people living there as well. Uber was given two-month probation in September on a condition that it needs to eradicate insurance and safety issues and to perform driver's background checks on which the company has failed. This is the reason why Uber is not getting the extension of license this time.
According to TfL:
“Despite addressing some of these issues, TfL does not have confidence that similar issues will not reoccur in the future, which has led it to conclude that the company is not fit and proper at this time”.
Uber is going to appeal a ruling in the coming days and according to the regulations in the UK capital the company can continue to provide its services until the outcome of the appeal comes. The official proceedings need to begin within the next three weeks or its go home time for Uber.
This problem in which Uber is stuck seems like a golden opportunity for its competitors like Ola Cabs as this can be the perfect opportunity for them to acquire the market.
