Social media platforms were being used to spread politically-motivated misinformation. This needed to stop that's why these companies are acting on it.

On Wednesday, Google published a blog which you can see right here.

Google said that it has been working on improving the ad rules to refrain misleading content as well as fake news.

According to Google:

“It’s against our policies for any advertiser to make a false claim — whether it’s a claim about the price of a chair or a claim that you can vote by text message, that election day is postponed, or that a candidate has died”

Some materials are going to be banned as per the new rules by Google. Banned Ad materials are going to include:

  • Misleading claims about the census process
  • Ads or destinations making demonstrably false claims that could significantly undermine participation or trust in an electoral or democratic process.

Google also said that they offer advertising transparency in India. The new policies will be implemented by December 3 and it is not possible that each and every misinformation containing post will come in the notice but a number of those will be reduced.
