The Facebook-owned company, WhatsApp will see multiple new features in its upcoming update for 2020. This is being done to improve upon user experience. The feature known as ‘Status Ads’ will also be made part of the app.
Whatsapp will feature advertisements for users. This was also hinted by WhatsApp itself in the Netherlands during the FMC (Facebook Marketing Summit) 2019. They expressed that the users will get to witness the advert along with its advertiser. However, the users still won’t be able to see the display picture of the advertiser. After seeing the advertisement in the app story, the users can directly reach the source of the ad by simply swiping up. This feature is available on Instagram as well.
The date of the release of the feature has still has not been revealed. But it is alleged that the app is busy developing the feature and it shall appear quite soon. The feature status ads will be available on the devices of Android and iOS both.
The WhatsApp status feature is known to display images, texts, videos and different media files. You can only see the story of the users who are well within your contact list. The products and services that will be shown via WhatsApp ads will be generated through the behaviour and interest of the user. For Example, you may see the advertisements of jeans if you find yourself mentioning the keyword ‘Jeans’ in your WhatsApp conversations and so on The preview of the ad will be available with the name of the advertiser.
WABetaInfo is a site developed by WhatsApp to provide the users with information of recent developments in the app. They conducted a poll in its twitter handle. The question in the poll was, “will you continue to use WhatsApp after the activation of the Status ads feature?” It’s no surprise that the people who were part of the aforementioned pole seemed extremely disappointed with this new development. Some of the followers even tweeted that they will uninstall the app if they bring forward the feature of ‘Story Ads’.
