SAN FRANCISCO: Facebook Messenger, the messaging platform and app developed by Facebook is getting restructured and as a result, features like 'chatbot' and the 'discover tap' have been removed. The aim of re-designing the messaging app is to grab more attention from the users by keeping it more accessible and simple.
Users will get to witness the removal of the said features from the upcoming week. The app is attempting to focus on the aspects of speed and lucidity.
An alleged report from a tech website states, "The changes are part of a larger Messenger redesign that reorients the People tab around Stories as Facebook continues to try to dominate the ephemeral social media format it copied from Snapchat."
The app got streamlined in terms of making it more functional, by Stan Chudnovsky, the Head of Product in Facebook Messenger.
The newly initiated design will now feature a "People" section which will show Facebook friends of the user who have uploaded something new as a part of 'Facebook Stories'.
The contact list within the app will also be organized in such a way that the friends who are frequently contacted will remain on top if they are active.
The icons for 'Instant Games' and 'Transportation' present in the utility tray of the app will also get removed and will only appear when searched in the 'Search Tab'.
Messenger Kids, an alternative designed by Facebook specifically for a younger audience will also be made part of the revamping.
More exposure will be given to parents to control what their children are doing on the messaging app. New kind of privacy features were added within the 'Parent Dashboard' present in the app.
Parents can now observe the people their children are messaging, who is being video called and a list of blocked users by them.
