Instagram which is owned by Facebook has launched a new feature called the "Reels" which is going to help the users to create short lip-sync videos of 15 seconds. A Chinese app called "TikTok" is already famous for such video making abilities and now Instagram Reels is here to compete with it.
“Just like TikTok, users can soundtrack their ‘Reels’ with a huge catalog of music, or borrow the audio from anyone else’s video to create a remix of their meme or joke. ”
Reels will be available for both iOS as well as Android. Mark Zuckerberg (CEO Facebook) said that the Chinese app 'TikTok' has surpassed the number of users of Instagram.
“Instagram is the home to creativity and expression. That has been true from the day we were founded. It’s why we have a vast and robust creator ecosystem. It’s also why you see a lot of different platforms. It’s not just about video,”
“It can be about photos, it can be about Stories, it can be about video and the benefit that we see from a platform like Explore is that we have the ability to look at the broad ecosystem, not just the people you directly follow. ”
TikTok is owned by a Beijing-based tech company called the ByteDance. The app has faced a number of controversies and it was even banned on 3 July 2018 in some countries like Indonesia and then the ban was lifted soon on 11 July 2018.
Now ByteDance plans on investing around $1 billion in India on TikTok. People have been using the app a lot and the users of the app are increasing day by day. Nothing can be said if the people will leave Tiktok and move to Instagram reels.
Let's see what the future brings for Instagram and TikTok.
