NEW DELHI: Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad to go against West Indies in the upcoming ODI and T20I series on Thursday. Surprisingly, Rishabh Pant is preferred over the batsman-wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and people are questioning their decision.

It has been very well known that Pant has not scored too well in the last of his matches. Even his wicketkeeping skills were put to several questions as he did not perform exceptionally in that field too. That is why it came as a surprise that Samson is not included in the playing XI whereas Pant's poor performance has been totally neglected by the BCCI.

Recently, Sanju Samson took to his twitter handle to tweet a smiling emoji without any text. Fans are trying to decode the message, feeling sympathetic towards the Kerala cricketer.

Samson has been ignored way too many times by the selectors and his potential has been undermined for a long time. Earlier, it was tough for him to make it to the playing XI as former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was believed behind the stumps and now it is Rishabh Pant who is strongly backed by the selectors beside his below the average performance.

It's not that Sanju is a great wicketkeeper but even Pant falls in the same category. He has done many mistakes in the recent past that should have been the clue for the selectors to give a chance to Samson.

Indian cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle too felt that it was unfair for Samson to have been dropped from the playing squad. He wrote, "Hard on Sanju Samson but I guess he is much better off playing games rather than just travelling around. Big vote of confidence in Rishabh Pant but the team will expect more from him."

Pant must take this opportunity and try to excel in his performance as this type of luck might not work always. Besides Pant, the playing XI includes Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami.
