NEW DELHI: The Tihar Jail in Delhi is ready to hang all four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. The jail authorities have readied a new gallows frame that will allow all four convicts to be hung together.
Tihar jail has become the first prison in the country where four convicts will be hung together as the central jail had only one plank for hanging till now. According to the jail officials, a JCB machine was brought into the prison premises for the completion of the task along with the frame. The officials stated that a tunnel needs to be dug underground for hanging the convicts which will be used to transfer the bodies of the hanged convicts.
All four convicts in the 2012 infamous Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case have been awarded 'Death Penalty' by the Patiala House Court in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The review petition of the convicts in the Nirbhaya case was rejected by the Supreme Court earlier and the Patiala House Court today pronounced its verdict issuing a death warrant to all four of them.
The Convicts will be hanged on January 22 at 7 am, pronounced additional sessions judge Satish Kumar Arora on Tuesday. The additional sessions judge has said that the Convicts can use their legal remedies within 14 days.
Convicts who have been awarded the death penalty are Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Akshara Singh and Pawan Gupta.
