NEW DELHI: Amidst the nationwide uproar and protest against the 26-year-old veterinarian rape and murder case, Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Bachchan gave a statement that received mixed responses. The actor turned politician said that the accused should be brought in public and lynched.
Questioning the judiciary system of the country, Rajya Sabha's member of Parliament said, "I think the people now want the government to give a proper answer and a very definite answer. What has happened? How they have tackled it and how far justice has been done to these people? A similar incident happened in Hyderabad a day before the vet was raped. Do you not think the security in charge should be questioned and they should be asked to give an answer to why they were not able to protect that area?"
She went further on and suggested an alternative and thus received appreciation as well as flak on Twitter. She added, "I think these people need to be shamed in front of the entire country. People who have not done their jobs properly. These kind of people (the accused) should be brought out in public and lynched."
Many people applauded Mrs. Bachchan and thought it to be the perfect punishment for such a heinous crime. See their reactions here:
Absolutely madam. I think this is the best suggestion. the greatest of fear in someones life is getting lynched by public. #jayabachchan govt should introduce this legislation to punish the culprits of gangrape. I think juvenile act should be relooked too.#MondayMotivation pic.twitter.com/gIZyBbdFhb— Abhishek Kumar (@im_ur_abhi) December 2, 2019

People have turned insane!! Yes we are angry! Yes we want fast justice. But @TimesNow and #JayaBachchan get a hold of yourselves. We want to remain India and not turn into Lynchistan -- dont encourage people to start lynching on suspicion without due process and investigation! https://t.co/iNVxQxQZZO— Sucheta Dalal (@suchetadalal) December 2, 2019
When you become a member of the Parliament, you take an oath to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. Yes, sentiments are high, capital punishment has never been a deterrent to rape. If anything, it leads to more acquittals... #jayabachchan #HyderabadHorror 1/n— Dorodi (@DorodiSharma) December 2, 2019
Priyanka Reddy was abducted in the area of Shadnagar where her scooty broke down. She was allegedly raped by four men and then was brutally murdered. Her charred body was found near the NH44 in Chatanpally bridge near Shadnagar town in the Ranga Reddy district. And through this incident, we failed humanity once again!
