Indian Railways announces 'concession' gift for devotees on Ravidas Jayanti

Varanasi: The Indian Railways would be gifting the travellers, to Varanasi, a price concession on Ravidas Jayanti. The Railways has decided to grant 50 per cent concession in the 2nd/sleeper class category to travellers going to Varanasi on the occasion.

Those who are going to the city as devotees to attend the Ravidas Jayanti celebrations will be granted a discount of 50% by the Indian Railways as stated by Union Railway Minister Piyush Goel. It is to be mentioned that this year it would be the 643rd birth anniversary of saint Guru Ravidas.

The Railway Minister has directed his cabinet colleague Harsimrat Kaur Badal to provide such arrangements treating it as a special case. The instructions came in view of a written letter to the union railway minister by the former after the Guru Ravidas Janam Asthan Public Trust in Jalandhar urged the Akali Dal leader to put this issue of concession in passenger fares in front of the Centre.

Thus, the passenger fares for people travelling by train to Kashi for the religious occasion have been reduced by 50 percent. The event is slated to take place on February 9, 2020.

  2. Every year a grand celebration at Shri Guru Ravidas Janam Asthan Mandir in Seer Govardhan area of Varanasi takes place to mark the occassion.
  3. Being the birthplace of Guru Ravidas, lakhs of devotees come to the city every year from all over the world to celebrate the occasion.
