Coronavirus: Cases In India Nearing The 75,000-Mark; Death Toll At 2,415

NEW DELHI: The novel coronavirus cases continues to grip the nation in its wrath as the total infected people in the country are nearing the 75,000-mark. As much as, 121 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours, the second-highest number of deaths in a day yet.

To be precise, around 74,347 cases have been detected currently. India has replaced Canada as the 12th country which has been most affected by COVID-19 in the world. It falls right below China, the place where the virus was first detected. In the past one day, India reported 3,543 new cases, which is lesser than the cases which have been detected in the last two days.

Maharashtra continues to be the case with the highest number of cases as around 1,026 got reported in the area in the past 24 hours. The state now has 24,427 cases in total. In the last week, there have been 8,902 new cases of the virus, out of which around 5,000 cases were from Mumbai. 

Tamil Nadu is also getting affected quite severely as 716 new cases got reported within the area in the past 1 day. The urban containment plan initiated by the state also got revised by the authorities from the Public Health sector yesterday, i.e. 12 May 2020. The total number of cases in the state is at 8,718 with the death toll of 61. Around 8 deaths were reported yesterday.

The health Ministry also initiated new guidelines and began a serosurveillance on a district level for the coronavirus all over India, apart from the routine testing which has been happening regularly.
