New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy stirs controversy after he renamed Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards to YSR Vidya Puraskars.

This has irked the people widely who have condemned the chief minister's act of redesignating the award name to honour his father and the former state CM.

"The government has ordered to re-designate the 'Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards' as 'YSR Vidya Puraskars' from 2019 onwards for distribution on the occasion of birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad as National Education Day on November 11, 2019," read a Government Order (GO) issued in this regard.

Why the award is conferred?

- Award is given to meritorious students in SSC.
- The award consists of a merit certificate, a memento and scholarships.
- Award is conferred on November 11, the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
- Nov 11 is also celebrated as National Education Day.

Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power after a landslide victory in Andhra Pradesh elections in May in which Mr Naidu was voted out of power.

Asserting that YSR Jaganmohan Reddy has insulted India's late icon, Chandrababu Naidu said, "Dr. Kalam has accomplished much for the nation with his inspiring life. @ysjagan’s govt changing “APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar” to “YSR Vidya Puraskar” is a shocking method of self-aggrandizement at the cost of disrespecting a much venerated man. #YSRCPInsultsAbdulKalam."

Not only the political fraternity, people also took to Twitter to strongly oppose Jaganmohan Reddy's decision. Below are few of them:
