Ever wondered what is the best time to workout?

We are going to tell you just that. See the best time to workout depends on a number of things. Before you figure out what is the best time for you, you need to figure out:

  • Your goal(fat loss, muscle gain or just toning or whatever)

Now that you know what your fitness goal is let's proceed. See if you are a male you should workout in the morning. Why? because in the morning the testosterone levels of the body are higher.

About the Study:

A study was carried out and it was found that by changing their eating and exercising schedules, one can better control their blood sugar levels.

This study lasted for around 6 weeks and in it, thirty men were classified as obese and two groups were made. The half who ate breakfast before exercise and half who ate breakfast after exercise. There was a third group of people who made no lifestyle changes.

It was found that people who workout before breakfast burned a double amount of fat than the people who worked out after breakfast.

The increased fat burn was mainly due to the lower insulin levels of the body because of the overnight fast. More of the fat from the fat tissue got used as fuel during the workout. As this was the initial study it involved only men but further studies are going to involve women too.

The study was published in ‘Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism’.

Study Doctor's Narrative:

Dr. Javier Gonzalez of the Department for Health at the University of Bath says

  • “Our results suggest that changing the timing of when you eat in relation to when you exercise can bring about profound and positive changes to your overall health,”
  • “We found that the men in the study who exercised before breakfast burned double the amount of fat than the group who exercised after. Importantly, whilst this didn’t have any effect on weight loss, it did dramatically improve their overall health,”
  • “The group who exercised before breakfast increased their ability to respond to insulin, which is all the more remarkable given that both exercise groups lost a similar amount of weight and both gained a similar amount of fitness. The only difference was the timing of the food intake.”

So the workout should be done in the morning before breakfast to get better results.
