What is Whey Protein?

See if we go by the definition then it is the liquid remaining after milk has been curdled and strained. It is a byproduct of the manufacture of cheese or casein and has several commercial uses. But if we talk generally then whey protein is the protein that is extracted from the milk after some stages of processing.

Milk contains a number of things other than protein too. So, during the processing, other things like fat, carbohydrates are removed leaving you with pure protein. This pure protein is directly available in the market and such products are called Whey Protein Supplements.

 

Should you take it?

The answer to this questions depends on you. It doesn't matter if you are a male or a female, Everyone requires protein in their diet because protein repairs the muscles when they break down. 

The daily protein intake should be Bodyweight(in kg) x 2 = Grams of protein.

If you can successfully reach these numbers by just your diet then no you do not need to consume a protein supplement. But, If you can't consume this much protein by your diet then you can go for the whey protein supplement.
