Massive sets, arresting war scenes, elaborate costumes, strong protagonist, equally able antagonist, a pinch of love story- Ashutosh’s ‘Panipat’ seems to have all the ingredients to be a hit.
Based on the third battle of Panipat, the movie stars Arjun Kapoor as Sadashiv Rao Bhau and Sanjay Dutt as Ahmad Shah Abdali, who fight a battle for India.
The trailer for the period drama released on November 5, a day after the first looks of Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon were revealed. While, some scenes will remind you of Bajirao Mastani, Jodha Akbar, and Padmavat, the movie has the capability of standing alone.
Directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, the film also stars veteran actress Zeenat Aman, Padmini Kolhapure, Mohnish Bahl, and Mir Sarvar amongst others.
The third battle of Panipat is considered to be one of the largest wars fought in the 18th century. So massive was the battle that it perhaps witnessed the largest number of fatalities in a single day. The battle took place between the northern expeditionary force of the Maratha Empire and the invading forces of the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali, supported by two Indian allies - the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab and Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh.
The trailer looks grand, have a look:
The magnificent Shaniwar Wada was recreated by National Award-winning art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai and the convincing and beautiful costumes are designed by Neeta Lulla.
Panipat will be hitting the big screens on December 6th.
