The makers of 'Thalaivi' recently unveiled the first look poster and teaser of the biopic based on the life of the late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. Kangana Renaut, who is all set to play the late political leader in the upcoming movie looked unrecognizable and almost doll-like.
In the first look, Kangana was seen sporting Jayalalithaa's trademark middle-parting, bindi, and her victory sign. But what was unmissable was the heavy prosthetic makeup on her face. In an attempt to look more like the late politician, Kangana ended up looking artificial....almost like a doll figure.

The teaser of the biopic starts with a glimpse into Jayalalithaa's acting days, where she can be seen in her forgotten avatar of dancing and acting. Next, the scene transitions from a movie set into a political rally where the crowd is cheering for the leader as she waves her 'victory sign' at them.

Producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri, talking about 'Thalaivi' said, “I am excited to show this story of an actor turn politician, which is based on one of India’s most loved and followed public figures. Thalaivi is a very dear project to all of us as it is a story that needs to be told. And the way, Kangana has slipped into the character, is simply amazing. Can’t wait to present this film to the audience.”
What ensued after the teaser release was a trail of mixed reviews. While moviegoers liked Kangana as the young Jayalalithaa, they couldn't get over her prothetic look as the older one.
Here are are some fan reactions:
Why didn't they cast @vidya_balan ? Kangana is nowhere close to #Jayalalitha ji. Totally disappointed. She looks like plastic doll. Plastic mask kitna clear poster me. No wrinkles, no spots.. her face looks like balloon 🎈🎈here.— Indian 🇮🇳 (@Shweta88780054) November 24, 2019
At an event, talking about the difficulties of learning a new language, Kanaga said:
I am finding it difficult to learn Tamil. This film will be released in Hindi and Tamil, so we will do something about it. Obviously, I have to mug up those dialogues because Tamil is not an easy language. Earlier, I was trying to learn the complete Tamil language because I have learned English as well, but now I am learning Tamil as per the demand of the film's script.
