MUMBAI: Director David Dhawan will be back with the 90s hit movie Coolie No 1's remake. While the original movie starred a hit B-Town jodi Govinda and Karishma Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan will be seen stepping into their shoes for the remake. The director, however, recently opened if the new pair will be able to create the same magic that the old one did.
When asked if Sara and Varun would do justice to Govinda and Karisma, Senior Dhawan said that comparing the four will be unfair. He said, "Govinda and Karisma created magic on screen. No one can equal them. No one should even try. Varun and Sara are in a completely different zone, free of the burden of trying to be like their predecessors."
Further, he also stated that both his original and new films are incomparable. He said, "I agree that I am remaking my own film, so there will be comparisons. But what I’m saying is, the two pairs belong to different eras. It’s like comparing a Bentley with a Porche. They are not comparable."
The original Coolie No 1 was a super hit film of the 90s decade and has been able to maintain a good spot in the hearts of people till now. The movie released in 1995 and was a remake of Tamil film Chinna Mapillai.
The new version of Coolie No 1 also stars Javed Jaffrey, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever and Rajpal Yadav in prominent roles. Also, with this movie, we will see a fresh pair of Varun and Sara on-screen. Sara also confessed on Koffee With Karan she is a big fan of Junior Dhawan and would do anything to work with him. So, it will be interesting to see the chemistry between the two.
The movie will be hitting the screens on 1st May 2020.
