LUCKNOW: Lucknow University will be soon starting a course called 'Education for Happiness' under the M.Ed degree course. The course will get added from the upcoming academic session. Durgesh Kumar, the spokesperson for the university shared the news.
The motto of the course will be to teach the students how to be happy in any situation.
Amita Bajpai, a member of the education department mentioned, "This is an inter-departmental course. Science and M.Com students can also study this course. The Faculty of Education will add happiness course in the third and fourth semester of M.Ed from the new academic session."
Although the course will be made optional, a proper examination will be held for it. Only after the faculty board approves of the course, it will go to the academic council for further consent.
Bajpai also added, "Happiness course will have five units, including the several aspects related to happiness. The aim of the course is to make students realise what happiness is. The syllabus includes philosophy and Gita too."
This is for the first time in India, a course of this sort has been introduced at a university level. Before this, Yale University in 2018 also introduced a happiness course called 'Psychology and the Good Life'. It has now been turned into a free online course and can be taken by anyone.
It was also revealed that Lucknow University will begin degree and diploma level courses for 'Education for Happiness' if ever the demand arises.
